Dear Meteoritical Society Members,
The 2025 Nominating Committee are just beginning the process of selecting nominations of candidates to serve as Officers and Councillors for our Society in 2027 and 2028. The Council comprises the President, Vice-President (who will become president in the next cycle), Secretary, Treasurer, Past President (who was President in the previous cycle) and eight Councillors. Our role is to select nominations for election later this year.
The Committee are aware that we don’t know everyone, and don’t want to risk overlooking potential candidates simply because we don’t know them. Therefore, we would welcome suggestions of potential candidates from Society Members, to help ensure our final nomination reflect the diversity within the Society. If you have suggestions for potential candidates, or would like to be considered yourself, please contact the committee chair (Sarah Crowther, sarah.crowther@manchester.ac.uk) or any member of the Nominating Committee (listed below) by 15th June 2025.
The candidates proposed by the Nominating Committee will be approved by Council and then shared with all members of the Society before the end of the year, and are then typically elected unopposed. There is, however, the opportunity for members to subsequently nominate other candidates, which would trigger a ballot – further details are given in the Society Constitution and Bylaws.
Thank you in advance for your support and suggestions.
Best wishes,
The 2025 Nominating Committee
