The 87th Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society (MetSoc 2025) was held from 14–18 July 2025 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Perth, Western Australia. This marked a significant return to Australia for the Society, bringing together a vibrant international community of planetary scientists, meteoriticists, and students.
Organisation and Participation
The conference was organised with the support of Arinex and the local organising committee, with program management and abstract coordination handled by the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI). In total, 228 delegates from 27 countries attended, including 52 Australians and 176 international participants. The event welcomed a diverse group of professionals, students, and guests, reflecting the Society’s global reach.

Lunch for Early Career Scientists: Held at The Lantern, Curtin University Library, fostering
connections among emerging professionals.
Welcome Reception: Hosted at Hackett Hall, WA Museum, providing a relaxed
environment for networking.
Gala Dinner: A formal celebration at Fraser’s Restaurant, allowing delegates to reflect and
celebrate together.
Special Activities
A highlight of the post-conference activities was the field trip to the Yarrabubba crater. This excursion allowed delegates to explore one of Earth's oldest and most significant impact structures, providing unique geological insights and fostering scientific discussions in an
extraordinary natural setting.
Delegates participated in specialised tours, including:
Curtin University Activities: Impactite core viewing, John de Laeter Centre laboratory tours,
and immersive visualisation experiences at HIVE.
WA Museum Warehouse Tour: Behind-the-scenes access to the meteorite collection.
