Ways to Contribute

The Meteoritical Society solicits your support in helping to achieve the Society's mission. There are a number of ways by which you can contribute to the Meteoritical Society's Endowment Funds.

Cash Contributions

You may contribute directly to the General Endowment Fund or to one or more of the named funds within the Endowment by sending a check to the Treasurer made out to The Meteoritical Society Endowment Fund, or by making a donation via the Member Portal at any time or in association with paying your annual dues. Some companies provide matching funds for donations made by their employees to non-profit organizations. This is an excellent way to leverage your gift. It is usually the responsibility of the donor to provide documentation of the donation to the company.

Stock or Property

In some countries, stocks or properties that have increased in value since their purchase can be donated without incurring taxes on the appreciated value. Liquidation of the assets in order to make a cash contribution may decrease the amount of the gift and the potential tax deduction. The Meteoritical Society Endowment Fund can accept transfer of ownership of appreciated stock or property sent directly to the Society Treasurer.

Memorials

A thoughtful and fitting way to acknowledge the passing of a member or friend of the Society, as well as a non-affiliated colleague or family member, is through a gift in his or her honor. All memorial gifts will be acknowledged to the family of the deceased, as well as to the donor. Memorials should be sent to the Treasurer, along with a note specifying whom the gift honors and names and addresses of those to whom acknowledgement should be made.

Wills and Trusts

Members and supporters of the Meteoritical Society can make a lasting contribution to our Society through bequests. These commitments can be made at any age and in ways that fit personal circumstances. A simple bequest in a will can ensure the continuation of our mission for years to come. Commitments should be made individually by the donor in consultation with the donor's estate planner. We welcome notification of the Society of such plans but do not require it. The Meteoritical Society will recognize these donors in various ways, with the advanced knowledge and consent of the donor.
