Each year at the annual meeting of the Meteoritical Society, a few of the top oral presentations by student members are selected for awards. We are pleased to announce the awardees for the 2024 meeting, selected from 59 student presentations.
The McKay Award honors the memory of Gordon A. McKay. It was endowed in 2008 thanks to the generous donations of the McKay family and many society members. We are pleased that in 2024, the McKay Award is awarded to two students, both of whom have also previously won a Wiley Award:
- Daniel Sheikh (Portland State University, USA) – Application of Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) to Investigate the Petrogenesis and Shock Deformation History of a Pink Spinel Anorthosite (PSA) Clast in Lunar Meteorite Northwest Africa (NWA) 15500
- Leah Shteynman (Arizona State University, USA) – Zircon to Reidite and Back Again: Using Nano-Scale Fabrics to Constrain Transformation Mechanisms
The Wiley Awards have been given since 2012 and are sponsored by Wiley, the publisher of Meteoritics and Planetary Science. The five Wiley Award recipients for 2024 are:
- Sian Boultby (Royal Holloway, University of London, UK) – NIMROD UK Radar Data Use in Tracking and Locating UK Meteorites Falls
- Shiori Inada (University of Tokyo, Japan) – Theory of Kinetic Isotope Fractionation During Evaporation
- Moshammat Mijjum (Purdue University, USA) – Effects of Subsample Heterogeneity and Diffusion Kinetics on the Cosmic Ray Exposure Ages of Enstatite (E) Chondrites
- Anna Musolino (Aix Marseille University, France) – Evaluating the Use of Decomposed Zircons for the Identification of Impact and Airburst Glasses
- Anna Zappatini (University of Bern, Switzerland) – Al-Khadhaf: A Camera-Observed H5-6 Fall from Oman
