Dear Meteoritical Society Members,
We wanted to share some timely Meteoritical Society activities, opportunities, and announcements:
2023 Annual Meeting at UCLA – Join us in Los Angeles, California, August 13-18, for the 86th Meteoritical Society meeting! Abstracts are due May 31, and visit the 2023 meeting website for more meeting information.
Endowment Grants Deadline: June 15 – Submit your requests for Endowment Grants by June 15 to be considered in the next review round. Details about scope, eligibility, funding, and the application forms can be found on the Endowment page of the website. This will be the first time that there are two types of grants being offered:
- Endowment Fund Grants – to support activities that further the goals of the Meteoritical Society
- Meteoritical Society Research Grants – open to students and early-career researchers (within 10 years of degree) to promote collaborative research in the fields of meteoritics and planetary science.
2023 Pellas-Ryder Award – We are delighted to announce the 2023 Pellas-Ryder Award co-winners of Hui Ching Jupiter Cheng and C. Adeene Denton! View this news story for more details.
Nomenclature Committee Approves 3094 Meteorites in 2022! – The Nomenclature Committee of the Meteoritical Society approved 3094 meteorites in 2022! This is the highest number of new meteorites in a calendar year since the annual Meteoritical Bulletin began being phased with calendar years in 2016. Call from the Nominating Committee for Suggestions for Council Positions – The Nominating Committee is beginning the process of selecting the candidates for Society offices for the election at the end of this year and is welcoming suggestions. Visit this announcement for details on the positions and how to provide suggestions.
